Dedication to Public Service
Matt previously served as Assistant City Attorney in Saratoga Springs from 1997 to 1999, and as City Attorney from 2004 to 2005. Matt was also Special Counsel to the City for assessment case defense from 2002 to 2006. As City Attorney, Matt acted as lead counsel on the acquisition of over 100 acres of open space using Open Space Bond Act funds and grants from Saratoga County. Matt also drafted the first revision of the City’s Ethics Code in over 30 years. Through Matt’s efforts as Special Counsel to the City, he eliminated a dangerous backlog of commercial assessment cases, resolving half by withdrawal or dismissal.

Prior to earning his law license, Matt started his public service in Washington D.C. in 1990. Matt served as a Legislative Analyst for the New York State Senate’s Washington Office from 1990 to 1991. Matt left the Senate in 1991 and worked for the White House overseeing Presidential appointments from 1991 to 1992.
Matt completed his public service in Washington by serving as an Aide to the Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1992 to 1993. Matt had the honor of serving the administrations of both President George H.W. Bush and President William Jefferson Clinton.
