Strong Legal Experience

As a practicing attorney in Saratoga Springs for over a decade, Matt has handled virtually every type of case within the City Court’s jurisdiction, including criminal misdemeanors, violations, traffic infractions, civil claims, small claims, city code violations, commercial trucking cases and eviction proceedings.

Matt has a general law practice, including criminal defense, family and matrimonial law, litigation, municipal law, estate planning and administration, real estate, and business law. This broad exposure to the law over the past decade has prepared him well to act as Saratoga Springs City Court Judge.
In addition to representing local business and estate planning clients, Matt has a long history of handling cases for our most vulnerable citizens – the elderly, children, and people of limited economic means.

Matt has acted as counsel to the Saratoga County Office for the Aging for seven years, previously handled Juvenile Delinquency and PINS cases for the City of Saratoga Springs, acted as the Examiner of Guardian Accounts for the Appellate Division, and served on the Saratoga County Law Guardian panel for many years. Matt has frequently provided discounted or pro bono services to those in need.
Matt is part of a family tradition of attorneys in Saratoga Springs, extending back over eighty years. Matt currently practices law with his father Francis E. Dorsey, Jr. Frank started his practice with Matt’s grandfather, Francis E. Dorsey, Sr.. Matt’s grandfather was the longest serving City Attorney in the history of Saratoga Springs.

Through the Saratoga County Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Saratoga County Office for the Aging, and Community Hospice of Saratoga, Matt has been a frequent pro bono lecturer on legal issues affecting the community.

Based on Matt’s professional background and long history of community service, the Saratoga County Bar Association nominated Matt in 2007 for the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. At the time of his nomination, District Attorney Jim Murphy said “I have known Matt for nearly 30 years and know him to be of the highest moral character and value his friendship.
