Matt Dorsey to Run For Saratoga Springs City Court Judge
NewsMatt Dorsey, a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs and local attorney, today announced his candidacy for City Court Judge in the upcoming election. Dorsey’s strong legal experience, dedication to public service, and commitment to the community make him the ideal candidate to preside over cases in the City. He is seeking the Republican Committee’s endorsement, which will be voted upon next month.
“I have always taken pride in the commitment I have made to Saratoga Springs, both personally and professionally, said Dorsey. “It is that devotion, along with my desire for a fair, balanced judicial system, which prompted me to run. That dedication, when combined with my experience handling virtually every type of case within the City Court’s jurisdiction, assures me that I am fully capable to do the job at hand.”
Dedication has been evident since Dorsey’s youth, as he excelled at all challenges that came his way. At his graduation from Saratoga Springs High School in 1984, Dorsey was awarded the school’s highest honor, the Yaddo Medal. In the subsequent years, Dorsey graduated from Brown University, magna cum laude, and then earned his law degree from Vanderbilt Law School, after receiving the prestigious Vanderbilt Award for Academic Excellence.
Dorsey began his professional career in Washington D.C. He served as an aide to the Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1992 to 1993, and had the honor of serving the administrations of both President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. Once back in Saratoga Springs, Dorsey worked locally as a lawyer, serving as Assistant City Attorney in Saratoga Springs from 1997 to 1999, and as City Attorney from 2004 to 2005.
As City Attorney, Dorsey provided legal expertise to the City Council during a time of civility and cooperation. Throughout his term, Dorsey worked across party lines to ensure that the reputation of the City came first. He also drafted the first revision of the City’s Ethics Code in over 30 years, ensuring that the Council members conducted themselves properly and with the best interests of the City in mind, bringing integrity to the forefront. Dorsey looks to bring the same fairness and integrity to the bench in November.
Having served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Education Foundation for ten years, Dorsey’s dedication extends to the community which he has called home for most of his life. With the Rotary Club, Dorsey has volunteered for community projects on behalf of the YMCA, Rebuilding Together of Saratoga County, the Saratoga Springs Senior Citizens Center, the Salvation Army, and the Economic Opportunity Council. In addition, Dorsey and his wife Stephanie founded the Saratoga Springs Memory Walk in 1997, which has raised over $1 million since it began.
